You'll have the understanding, skills and academic requirements to be an early childhood, primary or secondary teacher. You'll be eligible to apply for a provisional practicing certificate, and after two years of full time teaching be granted a full practicing certificate with the New Zealand Education Council. To teach a NZ curriculum subject at senior level year , level university papers are required.

The Graduate Diploma in Teaching Secondary is available at least partially in Tauranga, with some online components. Curriculum area papers are largely Hamilton-only, although some are available in Tauranga or online. Learning to Teach Subjects in the Secondary School Series

Students must take a mix of BTchg Secondary Conjoint papers plus papers towards the second degree. In addition to the compulsory papers for each degree students may choose up to five option papers depending on their degree.

This is a one year professional qualification consisting of compulsory professional education and curriculum teaching papers, and includes three teaching practicum. Three kaupapa Maori papers may be taken as an alternative to three mainstream papers. This is a professional qualification involving one year of intensive study. It prepares students to teach in all curriculum areas and to develop professional understanding about teaching and learning.
